Crime and Punishment

Fourth AHRC Funded Colloquia

19-20 September 2011

Cambridge, Robinson College

Social control is the most popular area of canon law studies amongst medievalists at large. Here too, the changes from the eleventh century onwards were dramatic. This colloquium will cover the spectrum from the individual case (penance, excommunication) to the collective (interdict). The colloquium is aimed chiefly at postgraduate students and early career medievalists.

There are a limited number of places and CLASMA would like to invite applications for grants covering the colloquium, accommodation inCambridgefor the nights of 18-19 September, meals including a reception and colloquium dinner on 19 September. In order to maximize the number of grants, regrettably we are unable to provide travel expenses.

A full programme is attached along with an application form. Applications must include a brief statement of how the colloquium fits in with your current research as well as a supporting statement from your supervisor or mentor. Priority will be given in the allocation of the places to those beyondCambridge.

The deadline for applications is Monday 18 July 2011. Completed forms and any queries should be addressed to Danica Summerlin, CLASMA Administrative Assistant at clasma.colloquia@googlemail.com
